Thunderballs, Pigs, and Sharks, oh my!

Last time we left off we were in Eleuthera, which is a well known place in the Bahamas. The next day we left to go on another passage. We headed off to another place in the Bahamas named the Exumas. In the Exumas a couple of people got in to new things, Anthony and I got into playing chess with Captain Ken and Ryan. Cam and Larry got into dancing and prancing around the boat.

First Mate of Dancing

When we got to the Exumas we were able to snag a mooring and it turned out we were really close to all the activities we had planned. We were not even a five minute swim to the Thunderball Grotto. (Fun fact, part of the 1965 James Bond movie Thunderball was filmed here) There ended up being a large amount of current where we snagged our mooring. This really sucked, because there was a huge barracuda right underneath us that some of us wanted to snorkel with. Later, when Captain Ken and I went snorkeling the barracuda wasn't there.

Pig Rodeo

Two days after having a bunch of fun at the Grotto we went to a well known place called The Pigs Beach. They have huge pigs that swim in the ocean there! At first Nigel, Anthony, and I were a bit nervous around the pigs because their bite force has more power than a strong dog. I personally can't speak for Cam, Jazier, and Larry. However my group definitely had a bunch of fun.

Piggily Wiggily

Once all the fun was over we did some island hopping and we traveled to a place named the Land and Sea Park. We did a lot of snorkeling and while there we found a bunch of intact shells. We had fun zooming through the shallow crystal clear blue waters on our dinghy. One day we were swimming back to the boat from swimming at a beach and we saw some really cool things. I saw a lion fish too. When we were getting close to the boat we were kicked out of the waters by a seven foot Bull shark. Yikes!

Beautiful Bahamas

In conclusion, the Bahamas is a surprisingly beautiful place and the further you go the more beautiful it becomes. When you are swimming always keep your eyes out for your surroundings. Also be careful around three to six hundred pound pigs. Everybody can’t wait to get home from the boat trip, but I know when we finally get home we won’t be able to wait for the next one.

Signing off,

Blainey Boi
